Biography

Nick is a PhD student in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit, supervised by Professor Adam Butterworth and Dr. Dirk Paul. He is funded by the DTP MRC iCASE program, and his research focuses on identifying new causal risk factors for cardiovascular diseases using Mendelian Randomization. Nick completed his postgraduate studies in Cancer Biology at Heidelberg University. In his dissertation, he analyzed single-cell RNA sequencing data from the Drosophila midgut to unravel gene regulatory networks important for intestinal stem cell proliferation. Before beginning his PhD, Nick gained industry experience in data science R&D through roles at Novartis and the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg.
