Current and recent projects include:

  • CanRisk – developing a patient-facing tool and report to facilitate assessment of risk of breast and ovarian cancer and leading a multi-site feasibility study of offering proactive risk-based breast cancer assessment in primary care.
  • Prevent Breast – optimising implementation of breast cancer risk assessment into the NHS for women under age 50
  • PREDICT kidney – development, validation and feasibility testing of a PREDICT Kidney risk communication tool to improve follow-up care for patients who have undergone surgery for newly diagnosed localised kidney cancer
  • Bowel Star UK – evaluating the introduction of risk stratification within the English and Scottish bowel cancer screening programmes
  • YKST and TACTICAL – a feasibility study of offering abdominal non contrast CT scanning within a community lung screening trial and a subsequent pilot study of Targeted Abdominal CT in Conjunction with the national lung health check programme
  • Ribbons – A multi-methods exploration of the receptiveness of the public to implementation of risk-based innovations within cancer screening and early diagnosis in the UK
  • The CRUK Test, Evidence, Transition programme – working with frontline Health Service Delivery teams across England, Wales and Scotland to co-design, deliver and evaluate targeted service improvement and innovation projects to improve the early detection and diagnosis of colorectal cancer
  • PROMSL-SMS - Development and evaluation of the acceptability and feasibility of a tailored text messaging intervention to reduce risk of bowel cancer within the context of the English bowel cancer screening program
  • INSPIRE - Improving Colorectal Neoplasia Surveillance using Personalised Risk Estimation – Development, Validation, Economic Evaluation, and Acceptability of Individual Patient-Level Risk Stratification Strategies
  • PERSPECTIVES – understanding diverse public perspectives in cancer screening and early diagnosis in order to generate evidence to support policy

We also collaborate closely with colleagues within other groups in the Primary Care Unit and within the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, the Cambridge MRC Epidemiology Unit, the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre, and the Cambridge British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence, as well as external groups both nationally and internationally.
