Biography
Campbell holds a joint honours degree in Biology and Economics from the University of St Andrews, where he built a foundation in molecular biology and quantitative analysis. Campbell pursued an MPhil in Genomic Medicine at the University of Cambridge to refine these interests. As part of the taught element of his master's, Campbell gained a comprehensive understanding of critical topics in human genetics, molecular techniques, disease genomics, bioinformatics, and statistical methodologies, which provided the necessary foundation for his research. The research portion of this program focused on applying molecular epidemiological techniques to identify metabolite biomarkers and potential drug targets for Type 2 Diabetes.
Research
Campbell is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Multi-omics supervised by Dr. Adam Butterworth. His PhD research aims to leverage the full spectrum of molecular "omics" data—including genomics (DNA), transcriptomics (RNA), proteomics (proteins), and metabolomics (chemicals processed in the body)—alongside advanced computational methods to investigate the underlying causes of cardiometabolic diseases. By integrating these layers of biological information, Campbell seeks to understand causative mechanisms, identify novel therapeutic targets, and advance the development of personalised medicine.
