Biography

Salma is a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge, researching the outcomes of children and young people transitioning between Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and adult mental health services. Her research interests lie in child and adolescent mental health, with a particular focus on young people who have faced adversity, have a history of social care involvement, or come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Salma holds an MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health from King’s College London. Her professional experience includes working in CAMHS as an assistant psychologist, where she supported children with special educational needs and intellectual disabilities. She has also worked within the charity sector, supporting young people with mental health difficulties and complex needs, including care leavers and those experiencing homelessness. These experiences have shaped her interests and informed her research on the systemic challenges faced by marginalised young people in relation to mental health, health inequalities and access to care.
