Carmen completed her BSc in Medical Biosciences at Imperial College London. She conducted her final year placement in the Functional Gene Control Group at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences under the supervision of Dr Mikhail Spivakov. Throughout her project, she analysed epigenetic data and single-cell transcriptomic data using clustering and trajectory reconstruction approaches.

Carmen then pursued an MPhil in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge, where she completed her master’s thesis under the supervision of Professor Antonis Antoniou working on the validation of the BOADICEA model for breast cancer risk prediction in the UK Biobank.
