Upcoming ERFC Manuscripts
Upcoming manuscripts from the Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration will address the topics described below. Analyses on their topics have commenced and manuscripts are in preparation.
If you are a PI of one of the prospective studies that has contributed individual participant data to the ERFC on a risk factor listed below, please contact Dr Mat Walker (matthew.walker@phpc.cam.ac.uk) in case you would like to receive an advance copy of draft manuscripts in relation to a particular risk factor. Giving us this indication will prompt the ERFC coordinating centre to invite you to provide comments in advance of their broader circulation to the ERFC investigators.
ERFC Epidemiology Projects
- Risk score derivation for low and middle income countries: The ERFC is collaborating with the World Health Organisation to derive CVD risk scores for use in low and middle income countries. Status: Published Lancet Glob Health 2019
- Diabetes duration: What is the impact of duration of having diabetes on the risk of CVD and other major outcomes? Status: Manuscript revision in progress following comments from collaborative group
- Pulmonary embolism: To what extent are risk factors for CVD also associated with death from pulmonary embolism. Status: Published JAMA Cardiol 2019
- Evaluation of published risk scores: How do major risk scores (eg, Framingham, SCORE) perform in different Western populations and in different subgroups? Status: Published Eur Heart J 2019
- Alcohol: What is the relationship between amount of alcohol consumption and CVD and other outcomes? Status: Published Lancet 2018
- Timeframe for CVD risk prediction: What is the optimum timeframe for assessing CVD risk? What can lifetime risk estimation offer in comparison or addition to traditional 10-year risk prediction. Status: Manuscript drafting in progress
- Depression: What is the relationship between the depression score and morbidity and mortality? What is the impact of confounders on the association between depression score and CVD? Status: Re-checking data to correct coding errors
- Risk prediction for composite cardiovascular outcomes: To what extent are there shared risk factors for CHD and major pathological stroke subtypes? What are the implications for risk assessment? Status: Statistical analyses and manuscript drafting in progress
- ECG: What are the associations of different ECG findings and vascular disease? What is the incremental value of these markers in CVD prediction on top of conventional risk factors? Status: Manuscript drafting in progress
- Sequential strategies for CVD screening: Can CVD screening be made more efficient by preselecting individuals for detailed risk assessment using simple criteria (e.g. age, sex and smoking status)? What are the public health implications of such approaches? Status: Statistical analyses and manuscript drafting in progress
- Renal function: What is the incremental value of eGFR in CVD prediction on top of conventional risk factors? Are there independent associations between eGFR and deaths from major non-vascular causes (eg, dementia)? Status: Statistical analyses and manuscript drafting in progress
- Risk score derivation for Europe: The ERFC is collaborating with the European Society of Cardiology to derive CVD risk scores for use in European countries. Status: Drafting analysis plan
