Biography
Dr Anne Swift is Director of Public Health Teaching at the University of Cambridge Clinical School and a Consultant in Public Health Medicine at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. She is passionate about medical education and in 2021 was honoured to be awarded the University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching. In her NHS work, she is developing approaches to reducing health inequalities through integrated healthcare systems alongside working on multiple areas of patient and staff wellbeing. She is an educational supervisor for postgraduate training in the East of England School of Public Health, for which she was Training Programme Director until 2021.
Anne studied medicine at the University of Leicester and gained broad clinical experience working in histopathology, general practice, emergency medicine and psychiatry before training in public health in the East of England deanery, with specialist training in communicable disease control. Her interests within public health centre on reducing health inequalities for disadvantaged groups, public mental health and in reducing the impact of poverty, especially on children. Anne also leads the capacity building work programme for Cambridge Public Health.
Within medical education, Anne is passionate about developing clinically relevant and engaging teaching methods to communicate the potential of population health approaches to student doctors. She has built a multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of high quality epidemiology, statistics, research methods and public health teaching across the curriculum.
Anne holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Education (awarded with distinction). She has research interests in gender and sexuality minority health in the medical curriculum, curriculum design, and the philosophy and epistemology of medicine.
Anne is an External Examiner for Imperial College School of Medicine and for LKC Medicine in Singapore.
