Department of Public Health and Primary Care (PHPC)

Kathryn studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge, developing an interest in academic medicine during her clinical years. Working with Dr Tanya Blumenfeld on vaccination uptake of Irish Traveller children piqued her interest in the health inequalities facing Traveller, Gypsy and Roma communities (one of the UK’s largest ethnic minority groups). She undertook the Academic Foundation Programme in the East of England, working with Dr Amos Burke in the Department of Paediatric Oncology on a clinical project using functional imaging to observe changes in the connectome (map of network connections within the brain) in children with brain tumours. Kathryn remains an Investigator on this project, whilst moving on to her Academic Clinical Fellowship in General Practice.
