Biography
Dr Swapnil Ghotane is a Research Associate in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. He is a dentist and health services researcher with expertise in public health and applied mixed-methods research. He holds a PhD in Health Services Research and Public Health from King’s College London, where his doctoral research focused on needs-based workforce planning and health systems strengthening, contributing evidence to the development of Sierra Leone’s National Oral Health Strategy. He has over a decade of experience conducting qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research across UK and international settings. His recent work has focused on integrated care and service improvement for children and young people with complex health needs, working in partnership with NHS organisations, local authorities, voluntary sector providers, and community stakeholders through the NIHR ARC South London. He has led qualitative evaluations, systematic reviews, and secondary data analyses, with findings informing service design, commissioning, and policy. His research interests include health inequalities, primary and integrated care, workforce development, and participatory research approaches. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributes to teaching and research capacity building in applied public health research methods. At the Primary Care Unit in Cambridge, he is undertaking survey analysis exploring access to controlled drugs for end-of-life care in UK care homes, to inform policy work with Marie Curie, the Royal College of Nursing, and other national partners. He will also lead a systematic review examining the co-design of community palliative care services with service users and providers.
