Ian Wellwood has a clinical background as a physiotherapist working in hospitals and the community in the NHS in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. He graduated with research degrees from the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow before becoming a lecturer in Public Health and Health Services Research at King’s College, London. He was a Research Group Leader in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research at the Centre for Stroke Research, Charité-Universitätsmedizin, Berlin, before joining the Cambridge IPH in 2014.
Ian has an active interest in collaborative multidisciplinary research to optimise effectiveness, quality and implementation of rehabilitation and care, particularly for people with long term conditions and disability. His other areas of interest include: systematic reviews; epidemiology and management of stroke, heart failure and COPD; exercise and activity-based interventions for the treatment and prevention of disease; research design and methods to investigate complex interventions in health services research.
