Background
Gemma studied geography at University of Cambridge followed by an MSc in global mental health at King’s College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. For the last two years she has worked as a research assistant in global mental health, looking at the prevalence, incidence and costs of dementia worldwide; the impact of depression on HIV treatment effectiveness; and cross-cultural validation of screening tools to identify common mental disorders in low and middle income countries. Gemma is supervised by Professor Jonathan Mant.
Research Interests
For her PhD, Gemma is using mixed methods research to design and evaluate low cost, primary care interventions to help informal carers support the mental health of their family and friends living with cancer, diabetes or the after-effects of stroke.
