Ricky joined the General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit in January 2010.
Coming from a background in exercise physiology, Ricky qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1990 and took his first clinical research post at the University of Manchester in 1993. He became a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy Studies, teaching extensively on the health benefits of habitual physical activity for cardiovascular conditions. He held the posts of Clinical Trials Manager and Research Fellow at the Arthritis Research Campaign National Primary Care Centre at Keele University, completing his PhD in 2007 on individualised goal setting as an outcome for use in clinical studies. He sat on the NICE Guideline Development Group for Peripheral Arterial Disease of the Lower Limb.
Current research interests include primary care management for stroke, exercise-based interventions for cardiovascular disease, and patient centred and individualised outcomes.
