Background
Valerie’s research background is in medical physics, most specifically in non-invasive diagnostics. She worked for over 15 years as a technology consultant, mainly helping medical device companies develop their next generation products.
Current role
Valerie is Programme manager for CanTest – a Cancer Research UK funded collaborative programme involving 9 universities – 4 in the UK and 5 internationally. The key aims of CanTest are to improve early diagnosis of cancer in the primary care setting and to increase the number of researchers active in this area.
Valerie’s responsibilities include managing the CanTest finances and organisation of the CanTest International School for Cancer Detection Research in Primary Care. In addition, she is involved with a novel research project which aims to quantitatively and qualitatively analyse the impact of CanTest on the field of Primary Care Cancer Research via the application of Social Network Analysis methodology.
