Background

Before joining the CEU in October 2019, Val worked in at Strangeways for 10 years in the Department of Oncology as a Research Assistant on the SEARCH Study, a study investigating the molecular and genetic epidemiology of various cancers.

Prior to this, Val has held various roles in scientific research and scientific publishing.

Research Interests

Val is currently leading the setting up of a cardiovascular, aortic aneurysm recall-by-genotype study in healthy volunteers. These studies will help determine distinct molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying candidate functional variants identified in large-scale genetic studies of human cardiovascular disease.

Val is also assisting other groups with research applications associated with both time sensitive SARS-CoV-2 research, and studies on possible long term morbidity and mortality.
