Background
Sophie Weston joined the CEU in April 2018 as a Research Coordinator within the unit’s global health team led by Dr Rajiv Chowdhury. She is now the global health team’s Senior Study Coordinator. Sophie’s main focus is the Cambridge Programme to Assist Bangladesh in Lifestyle and Environmental Risk Reduction (CAPABLE). CAPABLE aims to 1) build a cohort of 150,000 people for non-communicable disease research (the BELIEVE study) and 2) build research capacity in Bangladesh at institutional, organisational and individual levels.
Sophie has a BA in Geography from the University of Southampton and an MSc in the Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She previously worked in Tanzania on a cluster randomised trial evaluating a novel method of malaria control, with a focus on measuring entomological outcomes and insecticide resistance.
Since October 2020, Sophie is the Acting Deputy Operations Manager of the CEU and assists with grants, HR, and finance for the unit
