Title: | Improving quit rates among smokers in primary care: Pragmatic trial of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a tailored web- and text message-based intervention for smoking cessation |
Project Description: | iQuit in Practice is an intervention designed to be used alongside primary care smoking cessation support, and comprises a tailored advice leaflet and 90 day program of tailored text messages, commencing the day before the user’s quit-date. In an earlier pilot trial (n=600), a small but significant effect size was found at 6 month abstinence rates in the intervention group compared to those receiving usual care only (15.1% vs. 8.9%; p= .02; OR = 1.8; RR = 1.7). This study is a definitive pragmatic trial to assess the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of the iQuit intervention. Recruitment of 1452 participants will take place across 66 GP Practices in England.
