Title: | CanTest – Cancer diagnostic testing in primary care: a paradigm shift for cancer diagnosis | |
Project Description: | Aims : The CanTest Collaborative aims to transform the primary care physician (PCP) office to a hub of diagnostic excellence. The objectives are to: • Increase capacity and sustainability of clinical cancer detection research in the UK and internationally; • Establish an International School for Cancer Detection Research in Primary Care; • Identify existing and emerging tests, and alternative international models of care delivery related to diagnostic evaluation for cancer, and assess their potential for UK use; • Evaluate the availability, acceptability (to patients and PCPs), accuracy, and cost effectiveness of cancer tests when used in primary care. This includes optimising the use of existing tests, of tests currently used solely in secondary care, and of as yet unused tests. • Quantify any possible harms arising from increased testing for cancer in primary care, and create strategies to balance harms and benefits. The CanTest Collaborative has a wide-ranging project portfolio and the following Cancer Group projects are funded by CanTest in Cambridge: StrategieS to oPtimise Early deteCtion on pancreaTic cancer Biomarkers for the early detection of gastro-intestinal cancers in primary care A review of international guidelines on the initial assessment for ovarian cancer False-negative CA125 tests, time to diagnosis and stage in ovarian cancer: a cohort study using electronic records Tests and tools for the detection of ovarian cancer in primary care: a CPRD study Guideline review on FIT use in symptomatic primary care patients worldwide Assessing diagnostic accuracy and acceptability of FIT in symptomatic primary care patients after implementation of the DG30 in the East of England Diagnostic performance of biomarkers for bladder cancer suitable for primary care: a systematic review |
