Title: | Developing personalised cancer risk information to promote behaviour change |
Project Description: | The aim of this research was to develop ways of presenting an individual’s modifiable cancer risk and explore the views of the general public and key stakeholders on implementation. |
Methodology description: | We first used data from UK Biobank to develop risk calculators that allow estimation of the reduction in an individual’s risk of a series of common cancers that could be achieved through lifestyle changes. Using data from those risk calculators we designed different ways of presenting the information guided by existing literature and in close collaboration with members of the public. We then conducted semi-structured face-to-face interviews and focus groups with members of the public and with key stakeholders, including GPs, primary care healthcare teams, GP commissioners and public health officials, to explore their views on presenting personalised risk information about the risk of developing common cancers in general and specifically their views on different representations of that risk and the timing and site of delivery of the information. |
