Title: | A mixed method exploration of the pathway to diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children from the perspective of the child, family and GP |
Principal research question: | To explore the pathway from the onset of symptoms to diagnosis from the perspective of the child and their parents/guardians and GP, particularly to understand the factors contributing to the ‘patient interval’ (the time between onset of symptoms and first seeking medical attention) and the ‘physician interval’ (the time between first medical consultation and diagnosis). |
Sample group description: | 1) Children between the ages of 6 years and 15 years diagnosed with diabetes in the preceding 3 months. 2) Parents of children aged 1 month to 16 years diagnosed with diabetes in the preceding 3 months 3) GPs of children aged 1 month to 16 years diagnosed with diabetes in the preceding 3 months 4) Children who speak English and whose parents can speak and read English |
