Elka Humphrys, a PhD student in the Cancer Group, was delighted to be shortlisted for the Max Perutz Science Writing Award with her article “’It’s not fair’: a tale of two cancers”.
The MRC Max Perutz Award challenges MRC-funded researchers to write an 800-word article for the general public answering the question: ‘Why does my research matter?’. This year the MRC received 128 entries, with 14 articles shortlisted.
The award is named in honour of Dr Max Perutz who was awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and inspired countless students to use everyday language to share their research with the people whose lives are improved by their work.
