Congratulations to Dr Robbie Duschinsky, who has been appointed as a member of Wellcome’s new Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group. The Group, which met for the first time earlier this month, has responsibility to support the new Diversity and Inclusion team at Wellcome in their work to improve equality and inclusion in their grant-giving, in the science and medical sector, and within the Trust itself.

Dr Duschinsky explained: ‘Good ideas and evidence should guide the targeting of resources, not the personal characteristics of people. As a sociologist, I’m convinced that where there are inequalities and exclusion that misdirect resources away from good ideas and evidence then this risks harm to the quality of the work itself, directly and indirectly.  Wellcome have made diversity and inclusion a priority area for their work. Taking up the role of Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Advisor to Wellcome, I hope to contribute to their efforts to support diversity in who they fund, shape policy in the wider research sector, and increase the breadth of perspectives included within health research’.
