Dr. Rakesh Modi has received the RCGP/NIHR First5 Research award for his work on the SAFER trial, a programme of research investigating screening to detect atrial fibrillation, a heart condition responsible for one in ten strokes. The SAFER trial is funded by NIHR.
The award scheme is organised by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and NIHR Clinical Research Network. It recognises outstanding general practitioners and their contributions to research. The First5 Research award is for GPs who demonstrate an emerging interest and experience in delivering NIHR CRN research within a primary care setting.
Dr Modi, from Monkfield Medical Practice, Cambridge, won his award for his outstanding contributions to the SAFER atrial fibrillation research during the period from 1 January 2020 – 30 June 2021, an exceptionally challenging period.
