Despite decades of research, policy initiatives and public health interventions, inequalities remain a part of health systems. Why is progress so slow and what might we be missing? Explore these questions and more at the next Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research (CCHSR) In Conversation event, taking place on Wednesday 3 June 2026, 6–8pm, at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge.

In this edition of the series, Professor Simon Griffin, Prof of General Practice at the University of Cambridge and Group Leader for the Prevention Group in the Primary Care Unit, will be joined by Professor Mike Kelly, Senior Visiting Fellow in Public Health at the University of Cambridge and former Director of the Centre for Public Health at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), for an in‑depth discussion on 'Why health inequalities persist despite all the efforts to reduce them'.

Drawing on decades of experience in academia, the NHS, NICE and global health policy, Professor Kelly will reflect on what has - and hasn’t - worked in tackling inequalities, while Professor Griffin will guide the conversation and open it up for discussion with the audience.

The CCHSR is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge and RAND Europe. Their yearly In Conversation event brings together two subject matter experts, and a room full of academics, health practitiioners, patients and interested members of the public.
