Mission
The MRC/BHF Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) is an internationally-renowned centre of excellence for the study of the causes and prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We address strategic areas of unmet need with impact on scientific understanding, healthcare, and industry; this includes improving knowledge of causal risk factors, medicines development, public health interventions, population screening and global health.
The CEU’s distinctive emphasis is on:
- laying foundations for rational development of new medicines for prevention of CVD, including target identification and prioritisation, and
- improving CVD screening, risk prediction and prevention through development and evaluation of pragmatic interventions.
Our approach is the conduct of large-scale “team science” studies of CVD that integrate molecular and population methods, and that facilitate both discovery and applied research.
