Department of Public Health and Primary Care
The Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge is one of the UK’s premier university departments of population health sciences, top-ranked in Epidemiology and Public Health in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.
Research in cardiovascular disease epidemiology in the DPHPC is supported by programme grants led by Professor John Danesh (Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine), Professor Kay-Tee Khaw (Professor of Clinical Gerontology), and Professor Jonathan Mant (Professor of Primary Care Research ). Dr Emanuele Di Angelantio (UL in Medical Screening since 2010) leads work on cardiovascular disease risk prediction and screening.
The Department comprises groups focused on the epidemiology of common cancers (Professor Doug Easton, Dr Paul Pharoah), neuropsychiatric diseases (Professor Carol Brayne), global public health (Dr John Powles), as well as groups focused principally on applied medical statistics (Dr Chris Palmer, Dr Angela Wood).
The Department’s General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit (Unit Head: Professor Martin Roland; Foundation Professor: Professor Ann Louise Kinmonth), has expertise in studies of behavioural change (Professor Stephen Sutton) and randomised community-based trials. This Unit is, through collaboration with RAND Europe, establishing new programmes of health services research( Professor Martin Roland). There are also opportunities to collaborate with new Behavioural Research Unit (Director: Professor Theresa Marteau).
