Background
Thais is a medical doctor specialised in Neurology. Throughout her medical career she has developed an interest in research methodology most specifically in Statistics and Epidemiology. Her PhD focused on the role of white matter lesions in cognitively healthy individuals with subjective memory complaints. After relocating to the UK, she broadened her research interests in neuroimaging of brain tumours and dementias. She is about to start an Academic Clinical Fellowship training in Radiology at University of Cambridge where she will combine her research interests with becoming a Radiologist.
Teaching
Thais has taught at under and post-graduate levels (Neurology, Statistics and Epidemiology) in Brazil and England. Between 2008 – 2010 she was Professor of Preventive Medicine at Sao Paulo Federal University, lecturing on Epidemiology and Statistics to medical undergraduates. She helped overhaul the Epidemiology and Statistics course to comply with the new Brazilian national curriculum for medical students. She also designed and delivered satellite courses on statistics for post-graduate students and neurology for health professionals.
At the University of Cambridge, Thais teaches Public Health to third-year medical students and Epidemiology and Statistics to MPhil students.
Thais supervises Neurology/Neuroscience and Human Communication Disturbances post-graduate students in Brazil.
