Toby Prevost

In 1991 I joined the Department of Public Health and Primary Care as statistician in a two-year Research Assistant post in the Health and Lifestyle Survey team, following an MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Southampton. After returning there to undertake a PhD in the area of multilevel modelling applied to child mortality, I joined CAMS as Research Associate in 1996, being the first CAMS consulting statistician (except for the Director!).

In 2000 I moved to a joint post between CAMS and the General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit as a consulting statistician and as a trial statistician in studies aiming to encourage beneficial changes in physical activity and other lifestyle behaviours to prevent disease.

In 2002 I moved to a Senior Research Associate post in the GP Unit, working in trials and in methodological work in the area of multivariate meta-analysis applied to studies of behaviour change and their psychological determinants, in an attachment with the MRC Biostatistics Unit.

In 2006 I returned to a post in CAMS, being more involved in design-stage consulting and contributing to research protocols. I am part-funded by the GP Unit as senior statistician working predominantly in Type 2 Diabetes trials and with research collaborators at Kings College London. I am linked to University College London as honorary senior lecturer in a collaboration investigating the early detection of cancer.

I continue to have applied and methodological interests in trials and have recently joined with researchers in the Departments of Paediatrics and Oncology in appyling for funding for trials in Type 1 diabetes and Cancer.
